Honu Kai remains safe and far removed from the recent volcanic activity. We have not been, and it's highly unlikely that we would be, impacted by any volcanic gases.
As news of volcanic activity taking place on Hawaii continues to make headlines around the world, it is important that travelers headed to Kona or the west side of the island of Hawaii understand there is no reason at this time to change or alter your travel plans.
Madame Pele's eruption activity is limited to an isolated area on the island’s East side, over 100 miles away from Kailua-Kona, and is not affecting areas outside of the lower Puna District. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park was closed on May 11th due to the possibility of an explosive steam event and ash fall at the summit of Kīlauea Volcano. That anticipated eruption occurred on May 17.
